Thanking our volunteers and partners

This past Sunday, Ehrlo Sport Venture (ESV) proudly hosted its volunteer and partner appreciation event, bringing together the dedicated individuals and organizations who help make the mission and impact of Sport Venture possible.

The evening was a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the past year, celebrate successes, and recognize the people who commit their time and efforts to supporting youth in the community.

At the heart of ESV is the volunteer coaches - individuals who consistently go above and beyond to create inclusive, supportive, and engaging environments for the players and their families. Through their leadership, youth who might not otherwise have access to sport and recreation are given the chance to build skills, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

Our volunteer coaches are truly the foundation of this program, said Gloria Patrick, program manager for ESV. “They’re not just teaching sport - they’re building relationships, mentoring youth, and helping them see what’s possible for themselves.

ESV is committed to removing barriers and ensuring all children and youth have the opportunity to participate in sport and recreation, regardless of their circumstance. This mission is made possible through strong community partnerships and the unwavering dedication of volunteers.

For many of the youth we serve, this program is their first experience feeling part of a team, added Gloria. “That sense of connection and support can have a lasting impact far beyond the game.

The appreciation event also highlighted the vital role of community partners, whose support helps sustain and grow programming year after year. Together, volunteers and partners form a network of care that empowers youth and strengthens the broader community.

Celebrating these contributions, the evening also created space to hear directly from lived and shared experiences. A highlight of the event was a keynote-style presentation from three female youth leaders with ESV who recently participated in the Jumpstart Play to Lead Summit in Saskatoon. They shared their journeys as athletes with ESV, their transition into junior coach roles, and reflected on the growth and confidence they have gained through their involvement in sport and the Play to Lead program.

“I am grateful for [the athletes] continued contributions to making sport a space where women and girls are supported, and feel like they belong," shared staff ambassador Jeanette Orpe, who attended the summit.

As Canada marks National Volunteer Week, Ehrlo Sport Venture extends its deepest thanks to every coach, mentor, and partner who contributes to this important work. Their commitment continues to open doors and create opportunities for youth to thrive - both on and off the field.
