Enhancing outdoor recreational spaces

Ranch Ehrlo is a place where young people receive preventative and restorative services so they can heal, grow, and achieve their full potential. It’s a place where healing happens and dreams are born.

Those in our group living programs call Ranch Ehrlo home for a time, often staying at one of our three campuses located in Pilot Butte, Buckland (just outside of Prince Albert), and Corman Park (outside of Saskatoon). These rural settings are often familiar to youth coming from similar communities, while those from urban environments are offered a welcome change of pace and an opportunity to slow down.

Each day, youth attend school and participate in programming that helps them learn about themselves, work with others, and develop skills to regulate themselves in new situations. Whether at the pool, hockey rink, powwow club, or at a sweat, these experiences support growth and self-discovery.

Equally important, however, is the simple chance to play – to enjoy the space around them and just be kids.

Appreciating this, Ranch Ehrlo has made significant investments in outdoor recreational spaces across its campuses, ensuring they are fun, engaging places where youth can run, explore, and burn energy. Because through play, lessons are learned, relationships are strengthened, and a sense of joy, safety, and freedom can flourish.

Over the past few weeks, the property management team has completed the following projects at the Pilot Butte campus:

• Repaved the outdoor rink surface
• Upgraded the rink boards
• Installed new skateboard and bike equipment in the rink
• Built a brand-new beach volleyball court next to Schaller school and Vi’s garden

These enhancements are a direct result of ideas and feedback shared by staff. Their input helps identify meaningful opportunities for improvement and brings those ideas to life in ways that benefit the youth.

“These improvements are all part of Ranch Ehrlo’s ongoing efforts to enhance campus life and create more opportunities for recreation, activity, and fun, for both our staff and participants,” said James Westerman, director of property management.
