Pocket suites coming soon
Regina’s city council approved the ‘Pocket-housing” apartment building proposed for the 1700 block of Montreal Street.
“Pocket suites” are aimed at young singles transitioning from foster homes, group homes, or other transitional types of housing to independent living. The concept was taken from an award-winning Winnipeg development, which spear-headed the roughly 200-square foot, self-contained style of apartment in inner-city areas.
Eight small units in the apartment building will provide affordable housing for low-income individuals and allow people a greater amount of independence.
The next step in the process to build the apartment is submitting drawings and plans to get building permits. Construction of this project will involve the Pre-Trades Construction program.
